The renewed running track surface in Hertha Blue and Light Grey combines sports performance characteristics with a modern appearance. A special feature of the facility is the additional circular track surrounding the regular 200-meter track, allowing athletes to practice relay baton exchanges under conditions similar to those encountered in outdoor competitions.

The indoor athletics arena in Frankfurt-Kalbach serves as a national and regional training center for athletics, supporting both elite and youth athletes. Athletes from the German Athletics Association (DLV) use the facility to prepare for national and international competitions. As part of the modernization project, the running track surfaces were renewed and the training facilities were upgraded.

REGUPOL champion FL – Resurfacing System for Existing Running Tracks

The REGUPOL champion FL resurfacing system was used to renovate a total surface area of 7,235 m². The combination of Hertha Blue and Light Grey gives the arena a new appearance and provides clear visual separation of the different training areas.

The REGUPOL champion FL system was specifically developed for the renovation of existing synthetic running tracks. The existing base layer is retained and covered with a new surface layer. After preparing the substrate, a self-leveling, seamless polyurethane (PUR) coating is applied, into which colored EPDM granules are broadcast.

This process allows existing running tracks to be renewed without removing the entire surface structure. The new surface is spike-resistant, slip-resistant and durable. The result is a running track surface designed to meet the requirements of training and competition while making continued use of the existing infrastructure.

Additional Circular Track Enables Indoor Relay Training

A special feature of the indoor athletics arena in Frankfurt-Kalbach is the additional circular track running outside the regular 200-meter competition track. It allows athletes to practice relay baton exchanges under conditions that more closely resemble the curve radii of outdoor running tracks.

Due to the tighter curves of conventional indoor tracks, relay exchange training for outdoor competitions can only be replicated to a limited extent. The additional track in Frankfurt-Kalbach provides a supplementary training opportunity. In particular, DLV relay athletes can practice baton exchanges, running patterns and coordination between runners during the indoor season.

The additional circular track expands the facility's training possibilities and supports continuous competition preparation regardless of weather conditions.

Training Venue and Host of German Championships

In addition to daily training activities, the indoor athletics arena in Frankfurt-Kalbach hosts national athletics competitions. In February 2025, the German Indoor Combined Events Championships took place at the venue, with men competing in the heptathlon and women in the pentathlon for national championship titles.

In addition to the 200-meter circular track, the arena features sprint straights and facilities for various jumping and throwing disciplines.

Modern Training Conditions for Athletics

The renovation of the indoor athletics arena has further developed the training and competition facilities at Frankfurt-Kalbach. The REGUPOL champion FL resurfacing system allows the existing track structure to be retained while providing a renewed, durable surface.

The combination of the modernized running track surface and the additional circular track for relay training demonstrates how existing sports facilities can be adapted to meet different training requirements.

The project in Frankfurt-Kalbach highlights how REGUPOL contributes to the functional modernization of athletics facilities with its resurfacing systems, helping preserve existing sports infrastructure for elite and youth athletics.
