New REGUPOL Running Track at Stadion Rote Erde in Dortmund
The red running track surface combines the venue's characteristic appearance with the requirements of modern athletics. At the heart of the track system is the prefabricated REGUPOL base mat, which ensures consistent sports performance characteristics.
Opened in 1926, Stadion Rote Erde is located close to Signal Iduna Park and has been an integral part of Dortmund's sporting landscape for decades. In addition to its use as a football stadium, the facility, together with the neighboring Helmut-Körnig-Halle, serves as a federal training center for athletics. As part of extensive modernization measures, the athletics facilities were also renovated.
REGUPOL champion AG – Running Track Surface for Training and Competition
The REGUPOL champion AG running track surface was installed across a total area of 6,850 m² in red. The color reflects the stadium's traditional appearance and creates a consistent overall look for the athletics facility.
A key quality feature of the track system is the industrially prefabricated, elastic REGUPOL base mat. It forms the functional foundation of the surface and plays a significant role in the track's sports performance characteristics. Controlled manufacturing under consistent production conditions ensures uniform material quality and defined layer thicknesses. This enables consistent shock absorption and a uniform running experience across the entire surface.
Combined with the seamlessly applied, spike-resistant and slip-resistant EPDM surface layer, the result is a durable running track system designed to meet the requirements of training and competition. The combination of a prefabricated base mat and an on-site applied surface layer is a defining feature of the REGUPOL champion AG system, providing athletes with reliable conditions for various athletics disciplines.
Return of Athletics Competitions to Stadion Rote Erde
Following approximately four years of renovation work, Stadion Rote Erde reopened for athletics competitions on August 16, 2025, as part of the LG Olympia Dortmund Summer Festival. Around 180 athletes took part in the event, using the renovated sports facilities for various athletics disciplines.
The reopening marked the return of competitive athletics to this historic venue. The new REGUPOL champion AG running track is part of the modernized sports facility and is available for elite and youth athletics.
Tradition Meets Modern Sports Infrastructure
The renovation of the running track has brought Stadion Rote Erde in line with the requirements of modern athletics while preserving its historic character. The REGUPOL champion AG running track combines the benefits of an industrially prefabricated base mat with a durable surface and the traditional red color scheme.
The project in Dortmund demonstrates how REGUPOL contributes to the modernization of existing sports facilities with running track systems designed to provide functional solutions for training and competition.
